Fallen leaves abound in autumn, covering nearly every inch of your property, if you let it! But what if there was a smarter, easier way to eliminate pesky leaves from your landscape? Lucky for you, we’ve got six.
There’s no point in recycling leaves affected by fungus, as they’ll just spread the disease to your healthy foliage. If you’re planning on recycling leaves, make sure you get rid of the duds first. If you’re not recycling, take this time to trim away and affected branches from your trees and shrubs.
You want to have your lawn nice and clear before winter’s first snowfall. When snow traps dead leaves, which then trap your lawn, it’s more susceptible to damage and mold growth due to smothering. Hate raking? Don’t worry, these tips can help you get your yard clean in a jiffy.
Once you’ve weeded out any diseased or damaged leaves, skip the bagging process and distribute. Layering whole leaves 4-6 inches deep around your shrubs and flowerbeds can help keep your plants safe from freezing temperatures. Think of it as free insulation.
Organic matter, readily available for free in your yard? Composting it is a given! Either lawn mower over them or toss them in the shredder before adding them to your pile. Shredded leaves break down and compost at a faster rate than those left whole.
It’s harvest season and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Why not use some brightly colored leaves to as a place cards, or sprinkle them on the table as a festive accent? Press and frame them for easy seasonal decor or check our some of these other fun leaf crafts to enjoy with the whole family.
