Reduce foot traffic. Everyone loves to sink their toes into a healthy green lawn once in a while, but continuous foot traffic can cause grass blades to become beaten down and damaged. Try to allow your lawn some time to breathe in between uses, and avoid walking on your grass after a heavy rain or watering, as it can cause the soil to become compacted.

Give it a good cut. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: A good trim off the top is one of the best ways to keep your lawn growing green! Keeping your mower blades sharp will ensure a clean cut and avoid shredding grass blades. Be sure not to cut too short either. Taller grass encourages deeper root growth for an all around healthier outcome.

Only feed when necessary. If your lawn is stressed out already, fertilizing will do little to help. Instead, feed your lawn in early spring, before the dry summer heat sets in, and again in early fall.

Water early in the day. Watering between 6-10 a.m. helps ensure that the maximum amount of water is absorbed into the soil. Why? Because as the weather warms up later on in the day there is more of a chance of evaporation to occur. Water about a half an inch of water once or twice a week for best results.

Plant early, and a lot. Make sure you lawn is plentiful and sturdy by the summer by overseeding in the fall. That way it will be well equipped to handle the harsh summer weather conditions.
