How often do you water your lawn? Are you watering your lawn enough? What do you use to water your lawn? These are common questions you might be asking yourself throughout the spring and summer when you see that your lawn isn’t as green as it should be. When watering your lawn, make sure you…
Water in the Morning
The best time of day to water your lawn is in the early morning between 4:00 am and 10:00 am. Watering in the middle of the day isn’t good because the sun will evaporate the water too quickly. On the other hand, watering at night will allow the water to sit for long periods of time, thus creating lawn disease and fungus. Therefore, set a timer for your sprinkler system for early morning. For those who don’t have a sprinkler system, manually water your lawn in early mornings on the weekends.
Water Twice Per Week
If you’re currently watering your lawn every single day for short periods of time — stop! Overwatering your lawn like this can lead to lawn disease and shallow roots. Watering less frequently will encourage the roots of your lawn to grow deeper (which is what you want). You want the roots of your lawn to be at least six inches deep, and watering less frequently can help attain this depth. The optimal watering frequency is once every three to seven days.
Water Using Pulsating Sprinklers
According to professionals, built-in sprinkler systems are the best options for watering your lawn. If you plan on staying in your home for years to come, installing a new sprinkler system is worth the investment. For those without the luxury of these sprinkler systems, you can use a pulsating sprinkler that is connected to your garden hose. The water will shoot out on a horizontal angle, which can cut through the wind for a more efficient watering.
The lawn that surrounds your home needs to be watered in a specific way, otherwise, the grass will definitely be greener on the other side!
