The weather during March and early April is fickle, so it’s not always easy to get started on your garden as soon as spring arrives. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t plan out how you want your garden to look and what to include in it. In order to make the most of your property’s landscape this year, here are some things you should keep in mind.
Two Birds, One Stone
When you have a yard that isn’t the biggest on the block, make sure you’re planning the landscaping perfectly to make the most of the room you do have. For instance, you can have an array of plants to display while also having privacy from your neighbor’s yard. Do this by planting smaller trees along the fence line for a beautiful backdrop to your yard while also having the barrier and privacy you need.
Light and Dark
Your garden should have both dark and light colored plants. The easiest way for these plants to stand out is to strategically place them next to opposite colors. For example, plant something with a golden or yellow hue next to one that is of a darker color, like purple. These bold contrasts will make the purple plants seem richer and the golden ones seem brighter.
Break It Up
When designing your backyard, you don’t have to see it as a single space. Instead, break up the landscape into different sections, especially if you have a back patio. Utilize hedges and shrubs to create a natural divide between different areas of the yard without having to install large, vision-blocking fences or walls. Sectionalizing the landscape isn’t for everyone, but it’s a great way to add some uniqueness to your yard.
Now is the time to plan your landscape for the spring, just make sure you do everything you can to make the most of your landscape.
