Spring is fastly approaching and before you know it there will be leaves on the trees and flowers blossoming all around you. For all of the gardeners out there, now is the time to start preparing so you can be ready to dig in the dirt as soon as it’s warm enough. But before that happens, make sure you complete these steps in advance.
Seed From Scratch
You can easily head to a nursery in mid-May to purchase half-grown plants to add to your garden (especially vegetables). But why spend the extra money, and where’s the fun in that? Instead, plant your seeds indoors, giving them the time to grow. Then once the weather is finally warm enough, move them from your home into the garden.
Purchase Pansies
Are you looking to add some color to your garden before the summer flowers are in bloom? Consider planting pansies throughout your garden in the coming weeks. This flower thrives in cool weather which makes it the perfect flower for springtime. Once the temperatures rise toward the end of spring, flowers like roses, tulips, and lilies will finally be in bloom to take their place.
Finish Pruning
Pruning your plants is maintenance you need to complete during the end of winter right before spring finally arrives. This will allow your plants, trees, and shrubs to lose any dead weight and have the most potential for healthy growth for the new season. Make sure to get all of your pruning done in these next few weeks before the flowers and leaves start to bloom!
It’s almost time to roll the sleeves up and dig into the soil, but first you should get working on your pre-spring gardening.
