If you haven’t hopped to it already, it’s not too late to add some seriously spooky lawn decor to your landscape before the trick-or-treaters arrive. But before you go lighting up that great big pumpkin in your bushes and sprinkling faux-spider webs across your lawn, there are a few steps you’ll need to take first.
Step #1: Give it a cut.
Bust out the mower and get to cutting! Placing heavy decorations on top of long, unruly grass will just speed up the matting process. You want your Halloween decor to be scary while it’s on the lawn, not when you take it off and see the damage!
Step #2: Clean it up.
Make your display pop on a freshly raked and maintained lawn. Say good riddance to those pesky leaves to reduce the risk of lawn discoloration and disease if left up with your display.
Step #3: Trim your trees — and shrubs.
Before you go spreading spiderwebs and lights everywhere, better trim off any unruly branches. They can be dangerous for you, your decorations, and more importantly, your trick-or-treaters.
Now that you know what you should do, there’s also something you should NOT do. It might be tempting, but don’t touch that hose! For starters, you don’t want your lawn to be all wet and squishy with all those little feet pitter-pattering over for it scavenging for candy all weekend. Not only will it be a slippery hazard, but you’ll be more likely to have matted down footprints everywhere.
