Recycle Fallen Leaves in 3 Different Ways

Posted on October 6th, 2016

We’re passionate about preserving the earth — after all, if the trees and the grass don’t grow, we’ll have no lawns to mow! That being said, we like finding new and innovative ways to repurpose natural waste, like grass clippings and fallen leaves, whenever we can. With that being said and the fall season in full swing, we’d like to bring to your attention three great ways you can recycle those pesky leaves that will soon be falling all over your yard.

  1. Shred it and return it. Not back onto tree branches of course, but to the earth! Raking shredded leaves back into your soil and distributing it around the bases of your shrubs and trees provides a natural fertilizer effect. Just shred, or mow over your leaves and spread.
  2. Make it into mulch. Mulch is important to lock in moisture and nutrients, especially for the winter months ahead. Instead of bagging and tossing your leaves, crush and rake them around the base of delicate shrubs as insulation. Your precious plants will be better protected from freezing temperatures.
  3. Add it to the compost pile. If you don’t already have a compost pile, now’s the perfect time to start. When else will you have all that extra organic material, and nothing else to use it for? Composting is a great way to reuse lawn care waste while also creating nutrient rich fertilizer for your yard.
