Let us start by saying that we strongly recommend you wait to mow until conditions have dried up a bit. However, we realize that sometimes waiting is not an option, especially during the soggy spring season. That being said, if you absolutely must mow when the lawn is wet, here are a few must-follow tips to keep your lawn and lawn tools safe.
Clean up. That’s right! Before you put your mower and other lawn care tools away, give them a good rinse. Leaving damp lawn clippings on the underside of your mower or your string trimmer can invite mold and rust to form.
Mow often. If your weather conditions are particularly soggy for a long period of time, mowing more often means shorter grass clippings. Therefore, it will be less likely that those clippings will clump together and make lawn mowing unmanageable.
Side discharge. Instead of collecting your wet clippings in a bag, set the side discharge and allow them to blow back onto your lawn. Then either cross mow, mowing at a 90 degree angles to your first mow, to mulch or bag, or just rake up the clippings.
While these tips can certainly help, keeping your lawn in shape in less-than-idea conditions is easiest when you hire a pro! Luckily, if you live in Middlesex County, Hillsborough County or the surrounding areas, Turf Unlimited has got you covered
