Must-Do Yard Tasks Before the First Snowfall

Posted on December 10th, 2015

Is your yard prepared for the first snow storm of the season? If not, here are three must-do tasks to accomplish before the snow begins to fall.

Fertilize – The goal is to have your root systems fully fed by the time that winter rolls around. That way, roots will be more weather resistant and will continue to grow and strengthen even while the plant itself is dormant.

Plant – Now is the perfect time to plant spring blooming bulbs, but you’ll want to hop to it before the ground freezes over! In addition, planting new trees or shrubs can also be done in mid to late fall as long as the ground and soil is still workable.

Protect – Whether existing or newly planted, you’ll want to put a protection plan in motion to keep your greenery safe from scavengers and the elements over the winter months. This includes wrapping up any new or fragile trees and shrubs, and putting up protective barriers to stop squirrels and other animals from digging up your freshly planted bulbs.

Fall is the height of the lawn care season, as the efforts you make now will have a very important impact on the health of your grass come spring. If you’re worried that you may not have the time to dedicate to such a large task, or would rather reserve your weekends for football and relaxation, you may want to consider leaving it up to the pros!
